Karla is a civil litigator specializing in commercial litigation. She has represented individual and corporate clients in cases involving contractual disputes, real estate transactions, shareholder’s disputes, and collections matters. Her collections work has included representing creditors at meetings held by trustees in bankruptcy. Her real estate litigation practice includes all forms of property-related disputes, including representing clients in a leading real estate deposit case, acting for both landlords and tenants in commercial lease disputes, litigation involving contaminated sites disputes and environmental holdbacks, and claims arising from the purchase and sale of land.
A former director of Tonari Gumi, a Japanese Canadian seniors’ non-profit organization, she has a special interest in elder law and helping clients reverse transactions tainted by fraud, misrepresentations and undue influence. She also has experience resolving inter-generational family disputes and personal injury claims.
She regularly appears before the British Columbia Supreme and Provincial Court. She has also appeared at the British Columbia Court of Appeal, and in trademark infringement matters before the Federal Court. She brings a practical approach to resolving matters for clients and her practice regularly involves alternative dispute resolution and representing clients at mediations and judicial settlement conferences.
She received her LL.B. from the University of British Columbia in 2007, articled at a national law firm in Vancouver and was called to the British Columbia bar in 2008. A Richmond native, she is currently a member of the Richmond women’s field hockey team.
